Step 1: Define Your Neighborhood

Get started by talking with neighbors who are interested in helping to get your neighborhood organization going. This team will work to define your neighborhood’s boundaries and submit a neighborhood recognition request. Your Neighborhood Liaison can assist with this process.

Tips for Defining Boundaries

  • Typically, Neighborhoods are within a walking distance of up to one square mile
  • Include local businesses and multi-family residences within your neighborhood
  • There are at least 200 households or approx. 500 residents within the neighborhood boundaries
  • Include homes, parks and local amenities that offer a sense of shared identity

Once you have a sense of your neighborhood geographically, follow the steps in the Neighborhood Organization Toolkit to start your neighborhood organization.
