Neighborhood Traffic & Safety
Speeding Concerns
- All residential streets are 30 mph unless posted otherwise.
- Studies show lowering limits doesn't always slow traffic—road design matters more.
- Speed complaints often stem from perception rather than actual speed.
What You Can Do:
- Talk with neighbors—they may be the drivers.
- Use yard signs when kids are playing outside (but take them down afterward).
- Ask the City to verify speed issues using traffic data.
Stop Signs
Stop signs manage right-of-way, not speed. Too many can reduce compliance and lead to crashes.
- Do help: When traffic volumes are high or sight lines are poor.
- Don’t help: As a general speed control tool or when not warranted.
Pedestrian Safety
Safety Tips for Pedestrians
- Use crosswalks or intersections when crossing.
- Make eye contact with drivers before stepping out.
- Obey signals and stay alert—avoid distractions like phones.
Safety Tips for Drivers
- Slow down near crosswalks.
- Stop for pedestrians in or entering your lane.
- Never pass a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk.
