The Burnsville Police Department is considering the purchase and use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), consistent with authorized uses under FAA regulations and Minnesota State Statute 626.19. The City Council will discuss the potential UAV purchase, use and policy at their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Burnsville City Hall.
UAV Use
Police and Fire teams will use the UAVs to enhance the mission of public safety to protect life and property, allowing them to:
- Assess situations from a safer distance and reduce risk
- Conduct search and rescue
- Manage large disasters and crime scenes
Public Comment
Members of the public are invited to offer comment on the policy and use of a UAV. Comments will be accepted until 4 p.m. on April 2, and can be given:
- Via mail to Burnsville City Hall at 100 Civic Center Parkway, Burnsville, MN 55337 (attn Bethany Brewer)
- Via an online form submission
- At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 2
