About Burnsville City Academy

This nine-week, in-depth program, previously known as Citizens Academy) gives residents an inside look into Police operations and also includes an overview of fire/EMS training and City services. Participants are given the opportunity to tour facilities, experience hands-on activities such as dusting for prints, learn about common police calls, ask questions from experts, explore department functions, see traffic stops, watch demonstrations and get involved in various scenarios.

Apply early as the academy fills quickly and space is limited. Please note that a submitted application does not guarantee a spot.

Adults ages 18+ who live or work in Burnsville

When:
Sept. 14 - Nov. 9, Thursday evenings, 6 - 9 p.m.

Where:
Burnsville City Hall, 100 Civic Center Parkway

Cost:      
FREE (must pass a background check)

Class Topics

  • History of and tour the police department
  • Functions of patrol, investigations, behavior health unit, SWAT, physical evidence team, domestic abuse response team, negotiators, traffic and K-9 units
  • Traffic stops and student involved scenarios using a shooting simulator
  • History and tour of the Fire Department
  • EMS response and basic fire presentations
  • City Department presentations, including Streets Department, IT, and more

Participants are asked to make a commitment to attend each session.
